Q & A (from the Beginning Series, 2008)
When I was first starting to teach, I spent I don’t know how long coming up with the whole semester of classes - preparing, from what I had learned, what I wanted to share.
And on the first night of teaching, I was eating dinner, by myself, and my guide came in and said, “OK, we’re going to give you class now.”
And I my response was, “Oh! Really?”
And that just never stopped happening. So I had spent all these hours coming up with what I wanted to teach - but their classes were so much better, they were so much better! There was this total simplicity and elegance to it. It was way better than mine. So that was how it started, and I would meditate and I would get class beforehand.
And then as things went on, I would meditate and getthe class lesson during the class itself. And then I started directly speaking from them, and then started opening and just having consciousness speak.
So where I’m functioning from can vary from class to class. But if it’s just me speaking, I’ll say “I”.
If I’m working with my guides as a collective, speaking from that place, I’ll say “We”. And the energy in the room changes too. So you’ll have a sense of where things are coming from. And often I’ll have my eyes closed, and my body will twitch, or I’ll yawn. Just to give you a heads up - I look strange! But that’s what’s happening: I’m moving somewhere in the realm of those levels.
There is another kind of speaking that happens, more so in the advanced class than in this one. It is a little harder to describe, or at least to understand linearly. My sense of the personal “I”, as well as the collective “We” (with my Guides), becomes distant, or not primary, and dissolves into light. The one who speaks, speaks in the first person of “I” – and that “I” is the Universal “I” of all that is.
My life, personality and body are simply the vehicle for experience and expression of this “I”. This is always true for all of us every moment of existence. When pure awareness without identification speaks as “I”, it is unmistakably different from my personal use of the word “I”.
Q: Is there any indication of whether you are speaking for yourself or whether your guide is using your voice in the first person?
My guides don’t do that, because we’re working as a group. Sometimes I might say, “Let me ask my guide”. And then I’ll listen - so that frames it. But other times when I’m functioning in the Collective, I’m aware of all of their consciousness. And different guides may be speaking, or it might be my own larger awareness speaking. But because there’s a functioning as a group, everyone is in agreement with what’s about to be said, and with the one who’s saying it. So the individualness doesn’t matter - it’s a collective thing.
Which I had heard about. Has anyone heard of Eon? I had heard of that years ago. And when I heard of that collective thing I kind of freaked out, like “what happens to your individuality?” It sounded all mushy and yucky. But when that actually started happening, it was phenomenal. Th
e pure individualness is very clear, but it functions as a group.
And you can always ask, if you’re curious.
Q: Does your speaking change when you’re speaking from that other place?
Right now this is just me - the personality is Kristin speaking.
But my style of speaking from the Collective continues to change. I’ll stop, and there will be long pauses.
Q: Is it OK to take notes?
When Consciousness that is larger than what’s speaking right now is coming through, sometimes people are writing as fast as they can, trying to get it all down. So feel free.
In general, I prefer to not have people write during meditations.
Q: What is the format?
We’ll meditate in the beginning to drop in. I’ll use my crystal bowl for the beginning and ending of meditations.
And then we’ll do an exercise. Or speaking will happen, and then an exercise comes out of that.
Then we’ll share, and do another meditation or exercise.
In the midst of this kind of meditation, a lot of things can come up for people. And this isn’t a therapy session. But there’s room for movement to happen, whether it’s tears or laughter, or whatever it is. So I want to let people know that there’s room for that. If you feel like your crying wants to happen, you don’t have to try and hold it in. There’s a Kleenex box and you can cry.
And then in relation to that, I also ask for the stories that people share from their lives to have confidentiality. Just keep that within the room. And if for some reason you’ve identified with that person, or feel like there’s something you have to share with someone outside, check in with that person who spoke. Connect with that person. Not that that would often come up. But in general, it would be better to not speak about it, and I will do the same.
Sometimes I can answer someone’s question in a really full way, and if you want that answer, or you don’t want that answer, you can also let me know. There’s a varying degree of depth with which I can respond to a question, and if you’re wanting something private, please frame your question in that way.
Because there’s a mix of skill levels in this class, we’re going to be learning some of the basic skills. And don’t worry, you’re not going to get it all tonight.
For those who are wanting to learn to meditate, you’re going to get little bits during each class, because there’s a lot to be shared. And those who already have some baseline in meditation can take the exercises as deep as you want, as deep as you can.
